Yoga for World Peace – turmoil, chaos & despair, oh my!

These are pretty common feelings when we find ourselves in a state of fear, a world of frustration or a moment of fury. It happens.

Maybe it’s family drama, maybe it’s world drama maybe it’s drama class or traumatic drama. You choose.

It doesn’t matter the cause… stress adds to the chaos.

So can we really change/choose how we feel when we’re in a slump?

We can absolutely try.

Of course MY favorite practices… breathwork, meditation, yoga, qi gong… are all things that shift our state of being, with very little effort and within minutes. (Adding disco tunes speeds up the results).

Here, let’s give it a try… take as big of a breath as you can. Go ahead, I’ll wait.  Okay… hold that breath for just a moment… and then inhale a bit more before exhaling. Exhale slower.  Okay now that you’ve read this… do it again on your own. Two inhales, one slow exhale.

Do it one more time.

Now sing at least one verse of :

Don’t worry, Be happy

Everything is gonna be alright

Or Stayin’ alive

You choose.

Okay but seriously… you CAN choose.

You CAN do it – because…

we always have a choice.

(I used to absolutely hate this phrase… I can hear myself mimicking it back to a well meaning friend in my 30s. ‘We always have a choice’   She might even be reading this ‍♀️)

I hated it because I hadn’t yet figured out how to choose how I feel. Now, I’ve had more real life practice.

I Practice feeling calm

So I can choose to feel calm

whenever I want to.

It’s also super helpful when trying to fall asleep, when taking Charlie in for surgery and when contemplating world events.  Take a slow breath. And another.
